Welcome to
naturum Dalarna

Nature is an adventure – and it starts here!
At the visitor center naturum Dalarna you can get knowledge, inspiration and tips to help you discover the nature of Dalarna.

Naturum Dalarna is situated on the top of the mountain Björkberget in the village Siljansnäs, 15 km north west of Leksand. Here you can enjoy a stunning view of the lake Siljan and its surroundings.

In the visitor center you will find inspiring exhibitions about the nature in Dalarna – hear the wolf howl, find out how the lake Siljan was created by a large meteorite impact and follow the Dalälven river on its journey from the mountains to the sea.

The naturum staff will help you find your way to the nature reserves and National Parks of Dalarna in order to experience the fantastic nature of Dalarna. Don’t hesitate to ask us!

Exhibitions

The exhibitions at naturum Dalarna have several different themes; the forest, the predators, the geology, the biodiversity of the agricultural landscape, and a journey through the nature of the county of Dalarna.

Observation tower

Enjoy the spectacular view over lake Siljan! The tower has the same opening hours as the exhibitions and you enter from inside the naturum building. The visit is free of charge.

Take the stairs up the nine floors of the tower, or the elevator to reach both the indoor and outdoor view deck. The tower is 32 meters high, constructed all in wood and is FSC-certified. The dark panel is carbonized larch wood, made with the Japanese technique Shou Sugi Ban.

Since 1933 there has been a well known red and white view tower at the top of Björkberget, a popular destination for thousands of visitors over the years. The passage of time took its toll on the old tower and it was taken down in 2018. A new tower was built during the spring and summer of 2021.
